Driving Diversity

Ben Glover and Rhyan Wardman are business partners and winemakers born in the 70s, who loved the 80s and met at wine college in the 90s. Combined, these Marlborough winemakers have more than fifty years’ winemaking and wine management experience.  

The way they see it, our wine region has been missing a trick when it comes to celebrating and promoting diversity. They identified a need for a winemaking hub to provide a platform for wine excellence and innovation that would challenge the status quo.

Together they’ve created The Coterie, a winemaking collective.

The Coterie is a hub for premium, contract winemaking. The winery is certified organic and located on the Wairau Terrace, looking towards the Richmond Ranges. It’s a winery built on transparency, innovation and collaboration.

A place to host and call your own; but more than that The Coterie is a space for winemakers to gather around the kitchen table to share ideas, innovate and apply these learnings to their own wines and winemaking practise.

We are a bunch of inquisitive like-minded cellar hands with a global understanding of the world of premium wine. This philosophy is taken into The Coterie atelier, our shared space where we all pitch in to achieve our clients desired results.

With a huge emphasis on nurturing small batch, high quality wines, we treat the wines as our own, using best industry practice.

We want our clients to walk through the Coterie and believe that they couldn’t have done a better job themselves.

We are a collective who enjoy each other’s company. We want to see the Marlborough industry grow in recognition, and it all starts here on the Coterie floor.

Our architecturally designed winery is organically certified by Biogro standards. The fully equipped winery has a current capacity to process 1300 tonne of fruit and includes an 800 capacity, temperature-controlled barrel hall.

The Coterie kitchen table is a shared space, and the heart of our business. This is where we meet, discuss, disrupt and a place that our clients can call their own. With uninterrupted views out to the Richmond Ranges, it is somewhere to bring guests and showcase the wines made at this incredible site.
